About Muhammad Alshamkhi

Muhammad is a Legal Consultant in our International Arbitration Group, Global Projects Disputes Practice, and Global Investigations Practice.

Muhammad has experience working in arbitration and litigation in the UK and the Middle East. He has assisted corporate clients in relation to arbitrations under various rules, including the DIAC, DIFC-LCIA and UNCITRAL.

Muhammad is qualified in England and Wales and is a native speaker of English and Arabic.

Recent work

Muhammad’s experience includes assisting:

  • a Middle East Government regarding significant delay, disruption, acceleration and variation claims relating to a high-profile infrastructure project valued at hundreds of millions of dollars;
  • a leading UAE-based contractor in an ad hoc arbitration proceeding against the owner of a mixed-use building in Dubai relating to several heads of claim for damages arising out of delay and disruption;
  • a UAE subsidiary of a major Spanish contractor in defending an ICC arbitral award in a set-aside application before the ADGM Courts;
  • claimants in an ICSID claim brought against the State of Kuwait under the Egypt-Kuwait BIT, relating to the development of the Heritage Village Project in Kuwait;
  • a global conglomerate in negotiating a design & build and maintenance & services contracts in relation to a railway project in Saudi Arabia;
  • a global telecommunications company in various internal investigations into bribery, corruption and terrorism allegations, as well as in relation to its business operations and exposure to sanctions;
  • a significant global telecom player in a regulatory investigation and legal proceedings connected with a major accounting restatement in Saudi Arabia; and
  • an automotive company in relation to a potential data breach in the UAE including advising on the notification and local enforcement practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB), The University of Manchester.
  • LLM Legal Practice Course, BPP University.
  • Admitted as a Solicitor in the Senior Courts of England and Wales.
  • Registered as a Legal Consultant with the Dubai Legal Affairs Department.
