About Sofia Bekkali

Sofia is a Counsel in our Antitrust, Competition and Trade group based in Paris, where she is a member of our global merger control skills group.

Sofia's practice covers French and cross-border merger control proceedings, cartel and abuse of dominnance. She also advices clients on litigation and foreign direct investment in France. Her matters have led her to act for clients active in various sectors, including acquiring specific experience in the telecommunication sector.

Sofia joined the Paris ACT team of Freshfields as an Associate in 2016 and was promoted to Senior Associate in 2021. She spent secondments in our Madrid office and as in-house counsel at Japan Tobacco International in 2021 where she gained significant experience in regulatory issues.

Sofia is registered at the Paris and the Barcelona Bars and she is fluent in French, English and Spanish.

  • Advising a Spanish audiovisual company in an abuse of dominance litigation case before French courts.
  • Advising a major US food company in the context of the sale of part of its activity in Europe.
  • Advising a US telecommunication company in a litigation about merger control decisions before the French Council of State.
  • Advising a company active in the payment networks system in the context of a complaint to the DGCCRF for anticompetitive practices.
  • Advising several clients facing dawn raids investigations by the European Commission and the French Competition Authority.
  • Advising Grünenthal in the context of its acquisition of several established medicine businesses.
