About Matthieu Brueder

Matthieu joined Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer's Dispute Resolution Group in 2017.

He advises French and international clients in pre-litigious and litigious matters involving, in particular, cross-border as well as domestic issues of commercial, financial and banking law.

His special focus is on class actions and mass claims and he contributes on a regular basis to legal magazines.

Matthieu is fluent in French and English.

Recent work

  • Representing a car manufacturer on criminal, civil and regulatory fronts in relation to allegations that it intentionally and deceptively programmed certain diesel engines to selectively circumvent emissions controls.
  • Representing a listed company in a dispute with its former director regarding his removal from the company.
  • Representing a French bank in the course of a dispute where the latter is defending against requests brought by a state-owned Iranian bank, for payment on first-demand counter-guarantees.
  • Representing an international power company in two ICC arbitration proceedings against its supplier of plant equipment, arising out of the defective manufacturing of power plant components.
