About Darrin Carey

Darrin is an Associate within our Dispute Resolution team, based in Dubai. Having successfully completed his two-year training contract in our London office, he officially qualified as a solicitor of England & Wales in March 2024.

Throughout his training contract, Darrin navigated a diverse array of disputes, developing his skills across Freshfields’ leading commercial litigation, competition, and arbitration practices, working on headline-leading litigation mandates in the UK. Additionally, he honed his skills handling construction disputes, providing advisory services and engaging in arbitration proceedings in Dubai.

Darrin regularly lends his support to Amani Khalifa, Partner and Head of our KSA Disputes Practice. Notably, he assists Amani in her role as an arbitrator on the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal, an independent tribunal recognised by FIBA and an Anticorruption Hearing Officer of the International Tennis Integrity Agency.

Prior to joining Freshfields, Darrin distinguished himself through a commendable tenure as a Detective Constable in the English Police, where he led the investigations into numerous high-profile criminal trials in the UK.

  • One of the largest diversified family business groups in the Middle East in their SAR 500m construction dispute with a sovereign investment fund.
  • A large telecommunications company, conducting an internal investigation following whistleblower reports of a material breach of contract ahead of a potential request for arbitration.
  • A Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer in dispute with regional distributors.
  • A multinational software company as part of a regulatory investigation into their USD 20b merger with an interactive product design start-up.
  • A South American crude petroleum explorer in their defence of a multimillion-pound claim relating to an oil spill.
  • A specialist global pharmaceutical company in the defence of a multimillion-pound shareholder claim.
  • A major German multinational vehicle manufacturer relating to mass claims (250,000+) associated with the production of diesel vehicles.
  • A multinational private security company in the defence of a GBP 100m+ shareholder claim.
