Freshfields’ co-head of securities & shareholder litigation practice Mary Eaton recognized by Chambers for Pro Bono work

Partner Mary Eaton has been recognized as a “Highly Commended” lawyer at the 2020 Chambers Diversity & Inclusion North America awards for her outstanding Pro Bono work. The Chambers D&I North America awards provide the opportunity to shine the spotlight on role models and trailblazers in pro bono and corporate social responsibility as well as inclusion.

Mary has a 25-year history of fighting for civil rights and against injustice. In addition to her active litigation practice, Mary’s commitment to pro bono includes her diligent efforts on behalf of low-income New Yorkers, the LGBT+ community and other marginalized populations.  In the last year alone, Mary supervised 16 pro bono matters, which focused on LGBT+ rights, fair housing, reproductive rights, prisoners’ rights and aiding low-income New Yorkers.  Mary has also handled numerous immigration matters and family law matters.

Mary’s pro bono work has received widespread recognition, including the American Bar Association’s 2019 Stonewall Award for her significant contributions to the advancement of LGBT+ individuals and issues. Mary also won the Federal Bar Council’s Thurgood Marshall Award for Exceptional Pro Bono Service.
