Partner Sebastian Fain recognized as a 2021 Dealmaker of the Year by The American Lawyer
Freshfields M&A partner Sebastian Fain has been named one of 2021’s Dealmakers of the Year by The American Lawyer for his leadership in Freshfields’ representation of AstraZeneca in its $39 billion purchase of Alexion Pharmaceuticals—the largest acquisition of a US company, acquisition financing and pharmaceutical deal of 2020.Sebastian led the 30-person cross-border Freshfields team, comprising the firm’s corporate/M&A, finance, compensation and benefits, tax, antitrust, foreign investment, IP, data privacy, securities law, and capital markets practices. Of his work on the deal, Sebastian told The American Lawyer, “The skills that everyone brings to the table really ease a lot of pressure, because you know you’ve got a fantastic team and the … issues are being looked after at the very highest level. Things have to move fast, but because of the strength of the team, it just gives you a lot of confidence.”
Summing things up, Sebastian also said, “The joy of being an M&A lawyer is that you are the quarterback for the entire process.”
